Meet Jeff Dixon!

IMG_3888

We welcomed Jeff to the team recently as one of our new carpenters. His first day of “work” was actually the company crabbing trip in the San Juan Islands… not a bad way to start a new job! He loves working in construction because there is always something new to be learned or a new task to complete so there is a lot of variety and it isn’t like working behind a desk where every day is the same. He currently is spending a lot of time fixing up the old home him and his wife purchased a couple of years ago, and if he won the lottery he would love to start flipping houses just like Chip and Joanna from the TV show “Fixer Upper”. He attended Washington State University and of course we love having another coug in the office. He says if he could be any animal he would be a cougar of course!

Quick Fun Facts about Jeff:

He would love to be a shark tank investor.

His biggest pet peeve is inefficiency.

He hates Kale.

His first job was busing tables at Red Robin.

He would love to meet Steve Jobs.

His dream vacation would be to Italy.

He loves the movie Top Gun.

Welcome Back Darrick!

12832471_10102273220569823_1200247689143498394_n

Although Darrick worked for us back around his time at Washington State University (eek how many years ago was that!?), he started working for us again on April 3rd of this year! He of course was familiar with the office atmosphere and a lot of the employees have remained the same since his time with us, but he is now working as an associate architect. His favorite MCD moments have been any and all crabbing events we have put on in the San Juan Islands, and he loves being back at MCD because he get’s to be surrounded by great people. Around the office you may hear him referred to as Samurai, you can probably take a wild guess of which employee gave him that name.

Designing is definitely his passion. If he wasn’t designing custom homes for us, he would probably still be designing other projects of a different scale such as furniture. He loves furniture design and fabrication, vintage motorcycles, live music, metal and wood work, and of course architectural design. If he won the lottery he would use his winnings to design and build a custom home for his parents. If he could meet one person in history it would be Louis Kahn who is of course one of the United States’ greatest 20th century architects. Kahn’s projects include the Salk Institute in La Jolla California, Phillips Exeter Academy Library in New Hampshire, and the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut. We are thrilled to have Darrick back with us. His office is upstairs so be sure to stop in and say hello!

Employee Spotlight – Kim Lazo!

9Kim Lazo recently joined the MCD team as our “Office Ninja” helping everyone with what needs to get done from filing, running errands, organizing, you name it. She is working with us part time which is awesome since it allows her to be her own business owner on the side.  She is creative, artistic and dang crafty. Her hobbies include hiking, backpacking, skiing and mountaineering, and if she won the lottery she would spend the money traveling the world. Her ultimate vacation would be a trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.

2. If she could be an animal it would be an Emperor Penguin

Our First Female Laborer Charla!

FB_IMG_1484098294055

It is about time we get some ladies out in the field! A warm welcome to Charla Conrow who goes by Char. She may be only 4′-11″ but she has a bigger truck than most of the men in our office do! Char comes to us from Black Rock Construction and before that Pacific Tool Inc. She loves what she does because she is constantly learning and working with her hands. Her hobbies include her riding her Harley, which is quite an impressive feat considering her feet almost don’t touch the ground, as well as rescuing dogs. As a matter of fact if she won the lottery tomorrow she would buy a big plot of land just for them to enjoy! Fun Fact: Her ultimate vacation spot would be going to the rain forest.

Welcome Mo!

Mohamed Alhethail joined the MCD team a couple months ago. His experience has been working for Concrete Traditions, so he knows about prep, pouring, install and finishing. He also worked for Bullet Proof Welding in Perth in steel erection, and for Natural Factors as a remodeler. Mo is OSHA Certified and is a Certified Disaster Worker. He works Friday and Saturday nights working security as a bouncer as well. He was a referral from another employee Fletcher and he has already proven to be a great addition to the team, and like many of our employees, he has an awesome commute living in Issaquah. He is a “jack of all trades” and will be out on the job site working along side the rest of the team. He loves working construction because you get to break things during demo (and then rebuild them of course!) He loves tools of all kinds, enjoys music, collecting knives, and spending time with family, and absolutely hates Brussels sprouts. His ultimate vacation spot would be in the Bahamas or in Fiji.

On the Job.

Some things you may not know about Mo:

1. He can make some seriously good pancakes, and should be given an award for cooking his lady dinner!

2. If he could be any animal it would be a bear and he would take advantage of hibernation!

3. His favorite movie of all time is the Perfect Storm.

Our Interior Designer – Carrie Kinkade

carrie proOne of our most recent hires is Carrie Kinkade! She works as one of our interior designers and we were so thrilled to have her join the MCD team. She received a BFA in Interior Design from the Northwest College of Art and has worked as a Designer and Project Manager for multiple companies including Old Time Woodwork, Rainier Woodworking Company, Coyote Design Architecture and Planning PLLC, and most recently before coming to us at Renewal Remodels and Additions. She has strong management skills as well as being incredibly hardworking, creative, and detail oriented. She has also won a number of awards for her work including most recently in 2016 winning the REX Entire House under 150k, and REX Entire House 150-300k categories as well as the BIAW Whole house under 150k and the 2016 People’s Choice awards.  She loves working in the design world because she get’s to do her passion, and her hidden talent is selecting the most expensive anything when she goes into a store. Ha, we like to think that means she has excellent taste!

Employee Spotlight – Jake Lindahl

M__9B36

Jacob, or Jake as he is more often called,  joined MCD as a carpenter last month! If you haven’t met him yet, I’m sure you will see him around soon. He loves spending time with his family, lounging around with his kids and dogs as well as playing and watching sports. If he wasn’t working construction he would most likely be smithing. His favorite part about both jobs being that he gets to work with his hands. Now it is probably too early to start asking what his all time favorite MCD moment has been but we look forward to having him work for us and he is a great addition to the team!

IMG_2980

Jake has given us some of the most unique answers yet to the bizarre questions we have asked:

If he could be any animal it would be a rhinoceros.

His favorite movie of alltime is Princess Bride.

If he could meet one person in history, he would choose Leif Erikson. (For those of you who don’t know who that is, was an Icelandic explorer and the first known European to have discovered North America, before Christopher Columbus even!)

Meet our Summer Help!

Jake 1

We are excited to have Jake helping us out on the job sites for the summer while school isn’t in session. If Jake looks familiar, it is because he is Becki and Steve’s son! This is his first job and he was hired on as a laborer.  His hobbies include dirt biking and hunting, and of course like his family, vacationing to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!

Some fun and unusual facts about Jake:

1. His least favorite food is kale.

2. If he were an animal he would choose to be a shrimp… we asked for a reason, and he didn’t have one, but hey it makes him unique!

3. If he could meet one person in history it would be George Washington.
